KEGOC participates in Caspian Green Energy Corridor Project

QAZAQ GREEN. Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC) is taking part in a landmark regional energy initiative – the construction of a high-voltage and deep-water transmission line across the Caspian Sea (Caspian Green Energy Corridor Project.). The project was discussed during the 3rd Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council, held in Baku under the chairmanship of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan.
The high-level gathering brought together government and energy leaders from Turkey, Georgia, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and several European nations. Kazakhstan was represented by Vice Minister of Energy Sungat Yessimkhanov and KEGOC Chairman Nabi Aitzhanov.
As part of a trilateral agreement between Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan, the initiative to build a deep-water transmission line under the Caspian Sea marks a new chapter in regional energy cooperation. The transmission line will become a strategic piece of infrastructure aimed at boosting cross-border power transmission and enabling the large-scale export of clean electricity.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice Minister Yessimkhanov reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to developing diversified and environmentally responsible energy supply routes, including the advancement of low-carbon and green energy projects such as associated gas utilisation and green hydrogen production.
KEGOC, as the System Operator of Kazakhstan’s Unified Power System, will play a central role in the project. The company manages and maintains the National Electricity Grid, which includes over 27,000 km of 220–1150 kV transmission lines and 83 substations with a total transformer capacity of 39.1 GVA.
At the Baku meeting, the preliminary terms of reference for the feasibility study of the transmission line were presented. The study will be supported by grant funding from international donors.
The Caspian Green Energy Corridor Project is expected to enhance regional energy connectivity and serve as a key platform for the exchange and transmission of clean energy across Central Asia and beyond.
