Japan launches solar-powered green data center
QAZAQ GREEN. Japan Renewable Energy Corporation (JRE) has announced the successful operation of a solar-powered data center located on the grounds of its solar power plant in Nagano prefecture.
The data center uses 100% renewable energy and will be used by Morgenrot to provide its M:CPP GPU cloud service.
This project is the first example of a renewable energy provider in Japan launching a computing business attached to a solar power plant outside Japan's metropolitan areas. The containerized data center, installed within the JRE Nagano Omachi Solar Power Plant, has achieved stable operations and zero CO2 emissions, thanks to its "chiller-less" cooling system that uses well water for server cooling equipment, without emitting greenhouse gases.
Both JRE and Morgenrot will continue to work together to create new business models that will lead to decarbonization of critical social infrastructure.
