TotalEnergies to launch six new battery storage facilities in Germany

QAZAQ GREEN. TotalEnergies has announced plans to develop six new battery storage projects in Germany, adding 221 megawatts of storage capacity with a total investment of €160 million. The projects, developed by Kyon Energy, a TotalEnergies subsidiary acquired in 2024, are expected to be operational by early 2026.
The initiative is part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its presence in Germany’s electricity sector. The new storage units will use next-generation battery technology supplied by Saft, another TotalEnergies affiliate.
Germany’s growing renewable energy sector requires enhanced storage solutions to manage fluctuations in power generation. These battery installations aim to improve grid stability by reducing congestion and increasing flexibility.
TotalEnergies' German energy portfolio includes 7 gigawatts (GW) of onshore wind and solar projects in development, 6.5 GW of offshore wind capacity, and 2 GW of storage in the pipeline. The company also manages 9 GW of aggregated electricity capacity and operates nearly 7,000 charging points across the country.
Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, highlighted the importance of the expansion, stating that the new projects align with the company’s goal of providing reliable renewable energy and achieving a 12% profitability target in this sector.
As energy storage becomes an essential component of renewable energy integration, TotalEnergies continues leveraging its expertise to develop solutions that support the transition to cleaner power sources in Germany.
