IKEA’s Ingka Investments inaugurates solar park in Poland

QAZAQ GREEN. Ingka Investments, the investment arm of Ingka Group — the largest IKEA retailer globally — has officially launched its first solar park in Poland, marking a significant step in the company’s ongoing commitment to the renewable energy transition.

The newly operational solar park is located in the town of Recz and has a generation capacity of nearly 29 megawatts (MW). Equipped with approximately 53,000 solar panels and covering an area of 28 hectares, the facility is expected to produce around 30 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually — enough to power more than 12,000 Polish households.

“This solar park in Recz represents another milestone in our long-term strategy of investing in renewable energy and strengthening Poland’s energy security. By expanding our focus to include solar technologies, we strongly believe that a diversified renewable energy mix is essential for building a more sustainable future,” said Ewa Teodorczyk, Country Manager of Ingka Investments in Poland.

The project was developed in partnership with Enerparc, a leading European renewable energy developer. It contributes directly to Ingka Group’s goal of powering all its retail operations with 100% renewable electricity by the 2025 financial year, and aligns with IKEA’s broader ambition to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

Ingka Investments has been active in the Polish market since 2011 and currently operates seven wind farms with a combined capacity of 242 MW. The most recent addition to this portfolio was a 62.5 MW wind farm in Wysoka, inaugurated in September 2024 and featuring advanced turbine technology.

With the addition of the Recz solar facility, Ingka Group’s renewable energy portfolio in Poland now includes eight assets — seven wind farms and one solar park. Collectively, these projects generate enough electricity to cover the annual energy needs of approximately 260,000 households. The company now produces more renewable energy in Poland than is consumed by all IKEA stores, distribution centres, warehouses, and offices across the country.

“As part of a €7.5 billion commitment to support 100% renewable energy use across the IKEA value chain and beyond, Ingka Investments has invested €4.2 billion in wind and solar power since 2009,” said Frederik de Jong, Head of Renewable Energy at Ingka Investments. “Our investment strategy also includes innovative and transitional technologies such as energy storage, hydrogen, and grid infrastructure.”
