1000 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant under construction in Turkestan region

QAZAQ GREEN. A major energy project is underway in the Turkestan region, where a combined cycle power plant with a capacity of up to 1000 MW is being built. Developed as part of the state initiative "Developed Regions – Strong Economy," the project aims to address the region’s electricity shortage, according to the regional Akimat's press service.
The plant is being constructed in the village of Karamurt, Sairam district, by BG Turkistan, a subsidiary of the Samruk-Kazyna Fund. The construction is being carried out by a consortium comprising South Korea’s Doosan Enerbility and Kazakhstan’s Bazis Construction. Once operational, the facility will provide reliable electricity to more than two million residents of the region.
With an investment of 800 billion tenge, the power plant is set to generate 926.5 MW of electricity at full capacity. Cutting-edge technological solutions are being supplied by leading global manufacturers: Siemens Energy is providing gas turbines, Doosan Skoda Power is supplying steam turbines, boiler equipment is sourced from Italy, and Kazakhstan’s Asia Trafo is producing the step-up transformers.
The project spans 60 hectares of land. Currently, around 2,500 workers from 11 different companies are engaged in construction, the majority of whom are residents of Tolebi and Sairam districts. Upon completion, the facility will create 300-400 permanent jobs.
Supporting infrastructure development is also in progress, including the construction of a main gas pipeline to fuel the station and land acquisitions for expanding the gas network.
The launch of the power plant is expected to drive economic growth in the region, create new employment opportunities, and enhance Turkestan’s industrial potential. Plans are also in place to establish an industrial park in the vicinity, further boosting regional development.
