Azerbaijan and PowerChina discuss renewable energy projects and investments

QAZAQ GREEN. Energy Minister of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov held talks with He Shiyou, Executive Vice President of PowerChina Resources Ltd, on advancing renewable energy cooperation.
Discussions focused on a 160 MW solar power plant and offshore wind projects with a combined capacity of up to 2 GW, as well as potential new investments. Progress on the solar project was noted, with plans to integrate it into the national grid during the next phase of renewable energy development.
The importance of grid studies conducted by EPPEI was highlighted as key to ensuring system integration.
PowerChina reaffirmed its strategic interest in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan and exploring further investment opportunities.
The parties also exchanged views on smart grid development, the emergence of a “new energy system,” digitalisation of the power sector, and the growing role of renewables in supplying energy to data centres and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
