Kazakhstan expands international cooperation in renewables and energy modernization

QAZAQ GREEN. Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Erlan Akkenzhenov held a series of meetings with diplomatic representatives of Switzerland, India and Germany to discuss prospects for cooperation in the energy sector, including renewable energy development, infrastructure modernization and implementation of joint investment projects.

During a meeting with Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Switzerland in Kazakhstan Giorgio Pompilio, the parties discussed key priorities for modernization of Kazakhstan’s energy sector. Erlan Akkenzhenov noted that Kazakhstan continues to advance the development of its oil and gas sector, petrochemicals, coal chemistry, power generation and renewable energy, with a strong focus on advanced technologies and improving the resilience of the national energy system. The sides also exchanged views on expanding investment and technological cooperation with Swiss companies.

At talks with Ambassador of India to Kazakhstan Sailas Thangal, the minister emphasized Kazakhstan’s interest in implementing joint energy projects with Indian companies and investors. The discussions focused on deep oil refining, petrochemicals, coal chemistry, modernization of power infrastructure and cooperation in renewable energy projects.

A separate meeting was held with Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kazakhstan Monika Iwersen. The parties highlighted the systemic and multi-sectoral nature of Kazakh-German energy cooperation, covering conventional energy, oil refining and renewable energy. They also discussed further cooperation in the oil sector, including stable supplies of Kazakh oil to Germany.

Following the meetings, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in strengthening long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation in the energy sector.
