Kazakhstan's green energy output jumps 15% in early 2026

QAZAQ GREEN. Kazakhstan generated 2.3 billion kWh of electricity from renewable sources in the first quarter of 2026, up 15% compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Energy.
Full-year renewable generation is forecast to reach 8.8 billion kWh in 2026. To support that growth, ten new facilities are set to come online this year — four wind farms, five solar power stations and one hydroelectric plant — adding a combined capacity of 245 MW.
Renewables accounted for 7% of Kazakhstan's electricity mix by the end of 2025. The country aims to double that share to 15% by 2030 and plans to commission more than 8 GW of new renewable capacity by 2035 — a build-out intended to strengthen grid resilience, improve energy security and diversify the national power mix.
International players are already staking their claim in the sector. TotalEnergies, Masdar, China Power and China Energy are among the companies that have entered the Kazakh renewables market.
