North Macedonia accelerates investment in renewable energy

QAZAQ GREEN. North Macedonia has accelerated investment in renewable energy projects and has already brought the share of installed renewable energy capacity to 58%.

As reported by the Balkan bureau of Report, this was announced by the country's Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Božinovska, at the Belgrade Energy Forum.

Speaking on the panel "Ensuring the Energy Transition in South-Eastern Europe: Cooperation, Resilience and Leadership," the minister noted that North Macedonia had already aligned its energy legislation with European standards back in 2021.

"We have streamlined the settlement system and significantly accelerated all procedures. We have revised tariffs, held in-depth discussions, worked through various options and received additional support to improve operations," said Božinovska.

According to her, the country's energy system is today one of the most stable in the region.

Božinovska added that numerous projects in the fields of battery systems, energy storage and renewable sources are currently being implemented in the country. She noted that in 2025, the share of installed renewable energy capacity reached 58%, while the generation output figure stood at 49.6%.

"This is a very good result, and I believe the process will continue this year," the minister emphasized.
