Kazakhstan and Japan discussed issues mutual cooperation in the field of ecology

QAZAQ GREEN.  Today, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan Zulfiya Suleimenova and Parliamentary Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Ms. Yoshikawa Yumi discussed issues of mutual cooperation in the field of ecology during a bilateral meeting, the Press office of ministry said.

It is worth noting that in 2020, Japan has set itself an ambitious goal - to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Currently, Japan is in 5th place in the world in terms of greenhouse gas emissions from energy sources (PRC, USA, India, Russia).

The Japanese side expressed interest in cooperation with Kazakhstan within the framework of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM). This mechanism promotes the dissemination of advanced technologies and infrastructure to reduce emissions, as well as the implementation of climate change mitigation measures.

In addition, JCM provides for the implementation of climate projects aimed at reducing or absorbing greenhouse gas emissions.

The sides also discussed the signing of a Memorandum on cooperation on a Joint crediting mechanism at the level of the governments of the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, the Japanese side expressed gratitude to the Minister for the organization and holding the meeting.

For reference:

Credits under the JCM are issued based on quantitative indicators of reductions in emissions or removals of greenhouse gases achieved by the project participants during the implementation of measures to reduce emissions or absorption of greenhouse gases under the JCM.
