President Tokayev proposed to establish Water and Energy Consortium in Central Asia

QAZAQ GREEN. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's second day in Tajikistan began with his participation in the Council of Heads of State meeting for the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), the presidential press office said.
At the outset of his speech, President Tokayev thanked President Emomali Rahmon for hosting the event and highlighted the significance of the summit on IFAS's 30th anniversary.
He emphasized IFAS's crucial role in regional cooperation on transboundary water resources, environmental issues, and socio-economic challenges in the Aral Sea basin. President Tokayev also discussed the region's climate-related threats, including water scarcity and the need for efficient water use.
President Tokayev proposed enhancing IFAS's structure, transforming the water coordination commission, and establishing an International Water and Energy Consortium. He suggested a unified automated system for water resource management in the Aral Sea basin and the creation of a Central Asian Project Office on climate issues.
The President encouraged Kyrgyzstan to fully participate in IFAS's work and stressed the importance of mutual cooperation and respect among Central Asian countries.
He proposed hosting the next IFAS summit in Kazakhstan in 2026, coinciding with the Regional Climate Summit initiated by Kazakhstan under UN auspices.
The summit concluded with the signing of several important documents related to IFAS's activities.
