Renewable energy sources set to replace fossil fuels in Kazakhstan

QAZAQ GREEN. Renewable energy sources (RES) are poised to replace conventional fossil fuels in Kazakhstan. Experts anticipate this shift, with some green energy projects already competing on equal footing with traditional power plants. This trend is expected to gain momentum, Khabar 24 TV Channel reports.
The Kazakh Government is currently offering incentives, covering 35% of the installation costs for wind farms and solar panels. This is likely to provide an added impetus for entrepreneurs to invest in RES.
In his recent address, the President emphasized that Kazakhstan's energy balance is set to undergo a significant transformation. Over the next four years, nearly 1.5 GW of additional capacity is planned to be introduced alongside existing infrastructure. By 2060, the share of renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan's energy mix is expected to surpass 80%.
Currently, Kazakhstan has around 2,500 MW of operational RES capacity, equivalent to roughly 10% of the total capacity of all power plants in the country. The United Nations Development Programme, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, has formulated recommendations for the widespread adoption of RES facilities and technologies, targeting various sectors including the general population, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and agriculture.
Yerlan Dairbekov, National Project expert on RE UNDP, highlighted these developments, underscoring the country's commitment to embracing renewable energy solutions.
