Zhambyl region leads in renewable energy capacity in Kazakhstan

QAZAQ GREEN. By 2028, the number of renewable energy sources (RES) facilities in Zhambyl region is expected to reach 25, with a total capacity of 2.5 GW, according to the regional akimat’s press service.
Currently, there are 22 RES facilities in Zhambyl region with a total capacity of 551.3 MW, including 6 hydroelectric power plants (24.4 MW), 10 wind power plants (275.6 MW), and 6 solar power plants (251.2 MW). Last year, electricity generation amounted to 4,348.6 million kWh, and this year 4 560.8 million kWh is planned.
The region has the potential to develop RES. All conditions are in place for the construction of solar, wind and hydroelectric power plants. The regional akimat prioritizes investment projects in this area.
In general, three major RES projects are planned for implementation in the coming years. These include a 1 GW wind power plant in Moyynkum district by Total Eren, a 500 MW wind power plant in Sary Su and Talas districts by Masdar (UAE), and a 500 MW wind power plant by China Power International Holding Limited.
It is worth noting that Zhambyl region leads the country in terms of RES capacity and ranks second in the number of such facilities.
