Four hydroelectric power plants to be completed in Zhetysu in 2024

QAZAQ GREEN. In 2024, four renewable energy projects with a combined installed capacity of 46.1 MW and a total investment of over 22 billion tenge are set to be completed in the Zhetysu region, according to a report from the press service of the Akim of Zhetysu region. The projects will be implemented in the Koksu, Eskeldy, and Sarkan districts.
The regional Department of Energy and Housing and Utilities reports that the region has an installed electricity capacity of 234.5 MW, including 210.5 MW from renewable energy sources (RES) and 24 MW from the Tekeli Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHPP).
In 2023, the region's electricity consumption totaled 1.9 billion kWh, of which 630.5 million kWh was produced locally. Notably, renewable energy sources accounted for 472.6 million kWh, or 75% of the region’s own electricity production.
“Currently, the Zhetysu region has 15 renewable energy facilities with a total installed capacity of 210.5 MW located in the Aksu, Sarkan, Alakol, Eskeldy, Karatal districts, and the city of Tekeli. Seven more RES facilities are planned to be commissioned by 2026. This year alone, four renewable energy projects with an installed capacity of 46.1 MW and a total cost of 21.6 billion KZT are expected to be completed. These include one hydroelectric power plant (HPP) with a capacity of 7 MW in the Koksu district, one HPP with a capacity of 26 MW in the Eskeldy district, and two additional HPPs with a combined capacity of 13.1 MW in the Sarkan district,” the report stated.
