Nationwide referendum on Nuclear Power Plant set for October 6 in Kazakhstan

QAZAQ GREEN. A referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant will be held in Kazakhstan on October 6. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will sign the corresponding decree today, as announced during his address to the nation, according to 24KZ TV Channel
Following the signing, the document will be forwarded to the Central Election Commission for further preparation of the national poll.
President Tokayev highlighted that the construction of the nuclear power plant is a long-term project for the country, and he believes a year is ample time for citizens to make an informed decision.
"I mentioned the possibility of holding a referendum last year, so this issue has been on the public agenda for quite some time. I believe that this period has been sufficient for citizens to make an informed decision. Therefore, I support the government's proposal. The national referendum on the construction of the nuclear power plant will take place on October 6 this year, and I will sign the relevant decree today," said the president.
It’s important to note that four companies are currently offering their technologies for the construction of the nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan: from China, South Korea, Russia, and France.
