China Energy to invest $1 billion in solar and wind projects in Kazakhstan

QAZAQ GREEN. Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Akkenzhenov held a meeting with Qiao Xubin, President of China Energy, during which the parties confirmed plans to implement two large-scale renewable energy projects. The total investment from the Chinese company will exceed $1 billion, according to the Ministry of Energy’s press service.

The projects include the construction of a 300 MW solar power plant in the Turkistan region and a 500 MW wind power plant in the Karaganda region. These initiatives represent the practical implementation of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Renewable Energy signed on the sidelines of the COP-29 Climate Conference.

The meeting also discussed a joint project with Kazakhtelecom JSC to build a Data Processing Center (DPC) powered entirely by renewable energy sources. The initiative combines two of the country’s strategic priorities — green energy and digital infrastructure development.

“Partnership with China Energy is an example of successful investment cooperation that brings to Kazakhstan not only capital but also advanced technologies. The projects in the Turkistan and Karaganda regions are our joint and substantial contribution to achieving carbon neutrality. We also see great potential for expanding cooperation in energy storage and Smart Grid development. The Ministry will provide full support for the timely implementation of all our agreements,” emphasized Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhenov.

Both sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in further deepening their strategic partnership, which opens new opportunities for cooperation in energy, digitalization, and innovation.
