AI development must rely primarily on renewable energy – Maulen Ashimbayev

QAZAQ GREEN. The development of artificial intelligence should be powered primarily by renewable energy sources. This was stated by Senate Speaker Maulen Ashimbayev at the 11th meeting of the parliamentary commission monitoring the implementation of Kazakhstan’s national goals and objectives in the field of sustainable development, Bizmedia.kz reports.
“The development of artificial intelligence requires vast amounts of electricity, according to experts, particularly American ones. Therefore, the further advancement of AI must be based primarily on renewable energy sources,” said Maulen Ashimbayev.
He emphasized that, at a minimum, AI development should not negatively affect the environment or ecology through its carbon footprint. The ultimate goal, he noted, is to use artificial intelligence to protect the environment.
Ashimbayev added that all plans of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, the Ministry of Ecology, and other government bodies in this area must be closely coordinated.
