Kazakhstan expands women’s role in renewable energy

QAZAQ GREEN. The regional dialogue “Women in Water Resources and Energy” took place in Bishkek, bringing together women leaders, experts, and government representatives from across Central Asia. The discussions focused on women’s contribution to climate resilience, water security, and the region’s energy transition, the Ministry of Energy reported.
Kazakhstan was represented by Ainara Aydynqyzy, Chief Expert at the Department of Renewable Energy Sources of the Ministry of Energy. In her remarks, she emphasized Kazakhstan’s efforts to strengthen women’s professional presence in the energy sector. She highlighted initiatives such as the Women’s Committee for a Just Energy Transition under Qazaq Green and the Women’s Energy Club at KazEnergy, which support leadership development, professional advancement, and knowledge exchange.
Kazakhstan’s key priorities include greater engagement of women in advancing the energy transition, expanding opportunities for career growth, and fostering interregional dialogue and cooperation. The country aims to reach a 15% share of renewables by 2030 and 50% by 2050.
Currently, around 2,000 professionals work in Kazakhstan’s renewable energy sector, with women’s participation steadily increasing. Sustained progress, experts note, will depend on ensuring their active role in strategic planning, project management, and decision-making processes.
