Mingyang’s 20 MW offshore wind turbine stands complete

QAZAQ GREEN. Mingyang Smart Energy has installed what the company claims to be the world’s largest single-capacity offshore wind turbine, the MySE 18.X-20 MW, in Hainan, China, OffshoreWIND reports.
In December 2023, Mingyang produced a nacelle for MySE 18.X-20 MW wind turbine at its Shanwei manufacturing base in China.
The unit features flexible power ratings ranging from 18.X to 20 MW, coupled with rotor diameters from 260-292 metres, covering a maximum swept area equivalent to nine soccer fields.
With an average wind speed of 8.5 m/s, the unit can generate 80 million kWh annually, offsetting 66,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, equivalent to the annual consumption of 96,000 households.
The turbine is designed for global deployment in medium-to-high wind speed regions, with specific suitability for typhoon-prone sites.
According to Mingyang’s website, the wind turbine can withstand winds up to 79.8 m/s.
Recently, the Chinese manufacturer revealed that the company’s OceanX, the world’s largest single-capacity floating wind platform, according to Mingyang, sailed out of Guangzhou and is heading towards the Qingzhou IV offshore wind farm in Yangjiang, Guangdong.
The floater is a dual-turbine V-shaped platform and has a generation capacity of 16.6 MW, featuring two MySE8.3-180 hybrid drive wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8.3 MW.
