1-gigawatt wind farm to be built in Kostanay region

QAZAQ GREEN. A major renewable energy project is set to take shape in Rudnyi, Kostanay region. Akim Kumar Aksakalov shared this update during a briefing at the State Communications Center, as reported by Kazinform.
The Akim highlighted significant progress in the region's alternative energy development over recent years. Installed renewable energy capacity has nearly doubled, increasing from 50 MW in 2022 to 98 MW in 2024, driven by the construction of new wind farms.
"Currently, electricity consumption in the region (0.45 GW) is four times higher than local production (0.12 GW). To address this gap, we are actively expanding green energy initiatives, including new wind farms, solar facilities, and gas-piston power plants. The game-changer, however, will be the construction of a large-scale 1-GW wind power plant in Rudnyi," Aksakalov announced.
The project will include 165 wind turbines and is expected to increase electricity production in the region ninefold.
Once these green projects are fully implemented, local electricity generation will rise from 0.12 GW to 1.12 GW, fully meeting the region's energy needs and significantly advancing its energy independence.
