Ministry of Energy and PowerChina to launch Energy Transition Research Centre
QAZAQ GREEN. Chinese company PowerChina has presented a digital platform designed to support energy transition projects through machine learning and artificial intelligence, the Ministry of Energy reported.
Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov met with representatives of PowerChina Chengdu to discuss cooperation in digitalisation, smart construction and renewable energy development.
PowerChina showcased digital tools for planning and managing renewable energy infrastructure, including an AI-based platform for project planning and a digital monitoring system for design and construction. The tools support full-cycle management — from design to operation — using big data analysis, demand forecasting and optimisation of energy systems. According to the company, these technologies have already been applied across hundreds of renewable energy projects in China and internationally.
A memorandum signed in June 2025 between the Ministry of Energy and PowerChina outlines plans to establish a joint research centre focused on energy transition.
Akkenzhenov noted that the digital solutions presented could help address current challenges by accelerating processes and improving decision accuracy.
Both sides confirmed their intention to advance joint projects and expand cooperation on integrating digital technologies into Kazakhstan’s energy sector.
