Energy Vault connects commercial-scale gravity energy storage system in China

QAZAQ GREEN. Energy Vault, a company specializing in sustainable grid-scale energy storage solutions, has achieved significant milestones in its expansion into the Chinese market. In December 2023, the company successfully interconnected its Rudong EVx system with the China state grid, marking a notable achievement. With a capacity of 25 MW/100 MWh, the Rudong system is now fully operational and demonstrates inverse power capabilities, powered by the State Grid, according to the company's press release.

In addition to the Rudong project, Energy Vault has made progress on three more projects in China. The second EVx system, located in Zhangye City, Gansu Province, has completed foundational work and initial construction phases since its initiation in Q2 2023.

These projects have been officially recognized by China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) as "new energy storage pilot demonstration projects." This recognition highlights the importance of Energy Vault's gravity energy storage technology in supporting China's renewable energy objectives.

These developments contribute to Energy Vault's presence in China's energy landscape, where a total of 3.7 GWh of EVx gravity energy storage systems are under construction. These projects are strategically positioned to complement renewable energy generation and facilitate national grid interconnections.

Robert Piconi, Chairman and CEO of Energy Vault, expressed enthusiasm for the growing adoption of the company's technology within China's energy policies, emphasizing its significance in advancing global decarbonization efforts.

Energy Vault's Chief Technology Officer, Andrea Pedretti, praised the technical expertise and collaborative efforts of their Chinese partners, highlighting their rapid deployment capabilities and commitment to advancing energy storage technology.

The completion of the Rudong EVx system's grid interconnection, along with ongoing construction progress in other projects, positions Energy Vault as a key player in China's renewable energy landscape.
