Apple expands renewable energy projects across Europe

QAZAQ GREEN. Apple is rapidly scaling up its clean energy initiatives across Europe with new large-scale solar and wind farms under development in Greece, Italy, Latvia, Poland, and Romania. Together with a newly operational solar array in Spain, these Apple-enabled projects will add 650 megawatts of renewable capacity to Europe’s grids and unlock over $600 million in financing. By 2030, they will generate more than 1 million megawatt-hours of clean electricity on behalf of Apple users.
The expansion supports Apple’s Apple 2030 goal — to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire footprint by the end of the decade. Apple is enabling renewable energy projects to offset the electricity used by European customers to power and charge their devices. By 2030, the company aims to match 100 percent of global customer electricity use with clean energy by bringing new wind and solar power online worldwide.
“By 2030, we want our users to know that all the energy it takes to charge their iPhone or power their Mac is matched with clean electricity,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives. “Our new projects in Europe will help achieve the Apple 2030 goal while supporting healthy communities, vibrant economies, and secure energy systems across the continent.”
In 2024, product use — the energy required to charge and power Apple devices — accounted for about 29 percent of the company’s total greenhouse gas emissions. To address these emissions, Apple invests in renewable energy projects with the highest impact potential on power grids globally, focusing on regions with higher carbon intensity while protecting biodiversity and local communities.
Across Europe, Apple is facilitating large-scale projects expected to add around 3,000 gigawatt-hours of renewable energy annually by 2030. In Greece, the company signed a long-term power purchase agreement for 110 MW from HELLENiQ ENERGY’s solar project, now fully operational. In Italy, Apple supports a 129 MW portfolio of solar and wind projects, with the first — a solar plant in Sicily — coming online this month.
In Poland, where the grid remains among the most carbon-intensive in Europe, Apple enabled Econergy’s 40 MW solar array, to be operational later this year. In Romania, the company plans to procure power from Nala Renewables’ 99 MW wind farm in Galați County, developed by OX2. In Latvia, Apple signed one of the country’s first corporate power purchase agreements with European Energy for a 110 MW solar farm.
Apple also backed the development of a 131 MW solar farm by ib vogt in Segovia, Spain, which began operations earlier this year.
As Apple advances toward its 2030 target, it continues to enable renewable energy development globally. Together with its suppliers, the company now supports over 19 gigawatts of renewable capacity powering its corporate operations and manufacturing supply chain.
