Kazakhstan approves 2026 renewable energy auction schedule

QAZAQ GREEN. Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhenov has approved the 2026 schedule for renewable energy auctions. The order provides for both open auctions and auctions without documentation requirements.
Open Auctions
The auctions will take place between 27 April and 18 May 2026 at 15:00 Astana time.
On 27 April, a 250 MW wind power project will be auctioned in the Western zone (Atyrau region) with a ceiling tariff of KZT 22.68 per kWh. The commissioning period is 36 months from contract signing, with a 20-year power purchase agreement.
On 28 April, a 50 MW solar project will be auctioned in the Southern zone (Turkestan region) at a ceiling tariff of KZT 34.61 per kWh. Commissioning is required within 24 months, with a 20-year contract term.
On 29 and 30 April, two additional solar projects of 100 MW and 50 MW respectively will be auctioned in the Almaty region under the same tariff and contractual conditions.
On 18 May, a 65 MW solar project will be auctioned in the Kyzylorda region.
Bid bonds are set at KZT 2,000 per kW of installed capacity, while performance guarantees amount to KZT 10,000 per kW.
Auctions Without Documentation
Between 19 and 22 May 2026, auctions without documentation will be held.
On 19 and 20 May, two separate 100 MW wind projects will be auctioned in the Northern zone at a ceiling tariff of KZT 22.68 per kWh, with a 36-month commissioning period and 20-year contract term.
On 21 May, a 150 MW hydropower project will be auctioned across all zones at a ceiling tariff of KZT 41.23 per kWh, with a 60-month commissioning period and a 20-year contract.
On 22 May, an additional 50 MW hydropower project will be auctioned under the same terms.
Land and Grid Connection
Land plots have been reserved for certain projects, including 235 hectares in Aktobe (Aktobe region) and 500 hectares in the Ulytau region.
Grid connection is предусмотрена через 220 kV substations requiring expansion of switchgear facilities. In Aktobe region, projects will connect to the Ulke substation, while in Ulytau region to the Zhezkazgan substation. Each connection point allows up to 100 MW with one new grid connection permitted.
