Yerlan Akkenzhenov appointed as Energy Minister of Kazakhstan

QAZAQ GREEN. Yerlan Akkenzhenov has been appointed as the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan. The corresponding decree was signed by the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
"To appoint Yerlan Kudaibergenovich Akkenzhenov as the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan," states the document published on March 19, 2025, on the Akorda website.
Yerlan Akkenzhenov was born in 1979 in Almaty. He graduated from the Higher School of Law "Әділет" with a degree in law and from Astana University with a degree in oil and gas engineering.
He began his career in 2002 as a chief specialist at LLP "Trading House KazMunayGas." Later, he held positions as chief manager and director of the oil and petroleum products export department in the same company.
From 2004 to 2006, he worked as a crude oil trader at Chevron Texaco Global Trading under the "Kylysh" program in the UK, and then as the director of the trading division at "KazMunaiGaz Singapore" in Singapore.
From 2006 to 2012, he headed the oil and petroleum products export department at JSC "Trading House KazMunayGas," served as the commercial director of LLP "Kazakhoil Aktobe," and was an advisor to the general director of JSC "KazMunayGas Onimdderi."
In 2013, he was appointed deputy general director and later general director of Rompetrol Bulgaria in Bulgaria. From 2014 to 2016, he held senior positions at KMG International (Rompetrol) in Romania, including chief director of oil and petroleum products trading, retail director, and advisor to the general director.
From 2016 to 2020, he worked in private companies related to oil refining and transportation.
In July 2022, he returned to the national company "KazMunayGas," where he headed the petroleum products marketing department.
On June 21, 2023, by a decree of the government of Kazakhstan, Erlan Akkenzhenov was appointed Vice Minister of Energy.
