Kazakhstan to commission 10 RES projects in 2023 with a capacity of 276 MW - Energy Ministry

QAZAQ GREEN. Minister of Energy Bolat Akchulakov reported on the work done in 2022 and spoke about the miniistry's plans for 2023 at the expanded collegium in Astana.
In 2022, Kazakhstan generated 112.8 billion kWh of electricity, and the target for this year is 114.9 billion kWh, he said.
The share of renewables in 2022 reached 4.5%, or 5.1 billion kWh.
"In 2022, 12 RES projects with a total capacity of 385 MW have been implemented. This year, 10 RES projects with a total capacity of 276MW are scheduled for commissioning," Bolat Akchulakov said.
The minister added that under the approved Energy Balance until 2035, new capacity is expected to grow almost twofold.
"To prevent the risks of imbalances in the energy system and the impact of high tariffs from the newly introduced new energy sources, regulations were worked out for the transition to a new target electricity market model, which provides for the centralised purchase of electricity and the introduction of a balancing market," the Energy Minister said.
To stimulate market players, investments will be made in the reconstruction and modernisation of capacities, and a new programme "Tariff in Exchange for Investments" is also being developed. The volume of investment in the sector under the programme is estimated at about 400 billion tenge annually.
The ministry plans to complete an audit of all cogeneration plants and power grids in the country in Q1 2023.
