Kazakhstan’s Southern power grid to expand with new 20 mw solar station

QAZAQ GREEN. On June 19, 2025, an auction was held to select renewable energy projects for the construction of a solar power plant (SPP) in the Southern Zone of Kazakhstan’s Unified Power System (UPS), with a total installed capacity of 20 MW.
Six companies were admitted to participate in the auction, and during the trading session, 27 price bids were submitted. The total volume of submitted bids reached 120 MW. The ceiling auction price for solar projects in 2025 was set at 34.61 KZT/kWh (excluding VAT).
Bids received during the session ranged from 34.61 to 13.85 KZT/kWh (excluding VAT).
Following the results of the auction, Vigor Holding LLP was announced the winner. The company’s project, with an installed capacity of 20 MW, was awarded at an auction price of 13.85 KZT/kWh (excluding VAT).
Observers from the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstan Association of Regional Environmental Initiatives “EcoJer,” the Kazakhstan Electric Power Association, the Renewable Energy Association “Qazaq Green,” and the Oil and Gas and Energy Sector Association “KazEnergy” attended the auction. They confirmed the transparency of the electronic trading platform operated by KOREM JSC, the official auction organizer.
According to the approved schedule, the next round of auctions for hydropower plant (HPP) projects across all zones, with a combined installed capacity of 50 MW, is set for June 23, 2025.
