Tokayev met with heads of energy companies in France

QAZAQ GREEN. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held meetings with the heads of major French companies working in the nuclear industry, energy, technical gas production, transport, and other areas, the Akorda’s press office reports.
During the meeting, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Luc Remon, CEO of Electricite de France SA (EDF), discussed the introduction of advanced technologies in the nuclear power industry.
The President said that Kazakh specialists are studying the leading technologies of the world's leading companies in the nuclear energy sector.
The sides also discussed the prospects for joint projects in the field of renewable energy sources.
At a meeting with the CEO and Director of Air Liquide chemical company François Jackow, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was informed about the course of implementation of the French company’s projects in Kazakhstan and plans for the nearest outlook.
According to François Jackow, Air Liquide which specializes in the production of technical gases has implemented €120mln worth projects in Kazakhstan.
In particular, Air Liquid Munay Tech Gases joint venture launched the production of technical gases on the ground of oil refineries in Atyrau and Pavlodar.
President Tokayev receives Claude Imauven, Orano S.A. Chairman of the Board of Directors. They discussed the issues of nuclear industry development.
According to Claude Imauven, the Kazakh-French joint venture KATCO produces 15% of annual uranium output in Kazakhstan and 7% of global output.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that uranium cooperation issues between Kazakhstan and France were discussed during the talks with Emmanuel Macron.
Henri Poupart-Lafarge, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of Alstom, told the President of Kazakhstan about the company's investment projects.
In the nearest future, Alstom intends to invest 50 million Euros into implementation of projects on production, service maintenance of electric locomotives and equipment for rolling stock and infrastructure of railway transport. It is planned to establish service centres in the cities of Astana, Almaty, and the regions of Zhambyl and Turkestan.
Henri Poupard-Lafarge said that the company will train more than 1,000 local specialists when implementing these projects.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said Patrick Pouyanné, chairman and CEO of Total Energies, that during talks with Emmanuel Macron, special attention was paid to Total, which plays an important role in Kazakhstan's strategic partnership with France.
According to Patrick Pouyanné, Total Energies invested $12bln in Kazakhstan’s economy. He expressed confidence that his company will remain one of the largest investors in Kazakhstan.
The sides discussed in detail the issues of cooperation in Kazakhstan’s energy sector. The company intends to build a wind farm in the southeast of Kazakhstan and commission it in 2026-2027. The preliminary cost of the project is estimated at $1.9bln.
