DOE announces $3 billion investment to boost U.S. battery manufacturing

QAZAQ GREEN. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), through its Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains, is advancing efforts to build a secure and resilient battery manufacturing supply chain in the United States. As part of its Battery Materials Processing and Battery Manufacturing and Recycling Program, the DOE is facilitating a $16 billion investment to support battery production, processing, and recycling, creating over 6,000 permanent jobs and more than 13,000 construction jobs across the country.
In September 2024, the DOE announced more than $3 billion in funding for 25 new projects in 14 states aimed at increasing domestic production of advanced batteries and critical battery materials. This investment follows a previous round of funding, where $1.82 billion was awarded to 14 projects to develop commercial-scale facilities for extracting key materials like lithium and graphite, as well as manufacturing battery components. Several of these facilities are already under construction, with one fully operational.
These projects are part of a broader strategy to enhance America's energy security, economic competitiveness, and clean energy transition.
