Desert Technologies and Modon to launch one of Saudi Arabia's largest solar panel factories

QAZAQ GREEN. Desert Technologies, a leader in renewable energy and among the first Saudi companies to manufacture and export solar panels, has announced a new partnership with the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones (Modon), Zawya reports.
This collaboration will establish a major industrial complex in Jeddah’s third industrial city, dedicated to solar panel and cell production. With an annual capacity of up to 5 GW, this facility represents a 750 million SAR (200 million USD) investment aimed at meeting growing local demand for solar energy solutions and strengthening Saudi Arabia's presence in global non-oil export markets.
Set to be built on a 170,000 square meter area provided by Modon, the plant will house advanced production lines with 2 GW capacity for solar panels and 3 GW for solar cells. This ambitious facility will become one of the largest photovoltaic production centers in the Kingdom, reinforcing Desert Technologies' role as a driving force in renewable energy technology development and manufacturing within Saudi Arabia.
Khaled Sharbatly, CEO of Desert Technologies, highlighted that the project marks a significant milestone in the company's sustainable energy journey. He noted that the facility would utilize state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies, ensuring adherence to global quality standards to meet local market needs and expand Saudi exports. According to Sharbatly, the project underscores the strategic public-private sector partnership essential to achieving Saudi Vision 2030 goals by enhancing the local renewable energy value chain and advancing industrial capabilities.
