Badamsa 1 GW wind farm project with energy storage unveiled in Aktobe region

QAZAQ GREEN. A major renewable energy project has been presented in Kazakhstan’s Aktobe region. Regional Akim Askhat Shakharov met with representatives of leading Chinese energy firms — China Datang Group Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., China Energy Engineering Group — as well as the Kazakh company Badamsa Wind Energy to discuss the joint development of the Badamsa wind farm, which will include an integrated energy storage system.
According to the regional government’s official statement, the first phase of the project foresees the installation of wind power infrastructure with a total capacity of 1 gigawatt (GW). The initiative is expected to make a significant contribution to the region’s green energy transition and support its energy independence goals.
The Chinese delegation included Wang Hao, Director of Market Development and Head of China Datang Group’s Central Asia office, Wei Jianlin, Deputy General Director of China Energy Engineering, and technical experts from the companies' subsidiaries. From the Kazakh side, Manar Zhenis, General Director of Badamsa Wind Energy, led the presentation of the project.
Zhenis outlined the technical features and environmental importance of the wind farm. Chinese partners reaffirmed their readiness to invest in Kazakhstan’s energy sector, citing the stability of the investment climate and strong potential for long-term cooperation. Details of the project’s design, equipment supply, and construction phases were also shared, with a clear commitment to international quality and timeline standards.
Akim Shakharov expressed full support for the initiative, noting:
“The Aktobe region has substantial potential in renewable energy. Partnering with international investors will not only advance our energy infrastructure but also enhance the region’s economic resilience.”
Both sides affirmed their interest in continuing a constructive dialogue and building a long-term strategic partnership aligned with Kazakhstan’s green transition agenda.
